Ancient Rome
The Ancient Romans originated from Rome and the Roman Empire, founded in Italy in the eighth century BCE. They expanded their empire until reaching its peak in 117 CE, ruling parts of Europe, Britain, Northern Africa, and Mesopotamia.
The Roman Empire lasted nearly 1,000 years, influencing modern law, government, art, engineering, language, and architecture. The modern Latin alphabet derives from the ancient one. Many Roman innovations, such as Roman Numerals, concrete, and sewer systems, are still in use today, with some ancient roads now serving as highways.
The Roman army was the main source of power and strength for the Roman Empire. They conquered new lands, controlled conquered people and protected Roman citizens. Part of the reason for their success was their strict discipline. Every soldier knew exactly what they needed to do, even in the thick of battle.
